Drive for military efficiency

Hidden among all the mass-media hype last year about Ford's third-generation Focus hybrid was another, smaller, but not less relevant announcement that illustrated the push for hybrid electric drive (HED) research in the military sector. QinetiQ, better known as a weapons testing group, confirmed at the end of last year that it had won a prestigious contract with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to analyse the performance and assess the overall suitability of HED systems in military vehicles.
