Nissan looks to 400km Li-ion range

Nissan expects electric cars to be able to drive 400km on a single charge by 2015. Extending such cars' range will be an important part of convincing the public that they are a viable alternative.rnDrivers are accustomed to driving large distances on a single tank of fuel. Even small city cars such as the Citroen C1 can go 640km between refuelling stops.rnNissan R&D vice-president Mitsuhiko Yamashita said: "Consumersrnwill see a gradual increase in range as new generations of lithium-ion cells come to the market. Ranges of 170km will be viable in 2010,rnincreasing to 300km by 2012."
