The automotive industry has often been at the forefront of technological advances but, as consumer demands for connectivity increase, OEMs are developing infotainment systems powered by processors invented in the electronics industry. The high performance that such processors offer could also help to improve advanced driver-assistance systems. Consumers expect to be able to connect to smartphones, synchronise music and contacts lists, to surf the internet on tablet computers, and even to use the human-machine interface (HMI) to update their social media status on Twitter and Facebook while in their vehicles.
