What exactly makes consumers choose one vehicle over another can be hard to define but what is easier to state is that software is playing a much greater role than ever before. Features and functions such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist or, perhaps a track setting for the stability control system, are only possible because of the millions of lines of code in the black boxes that run them - software is taking a larger share of the added value.
