In a remarkable joint effort, executives from British Gas, heavy truck builder ERF Ltd, engine manufacturers and major operators of goods vehicle fleets mounted the biggest natural gas vehicle display and demonstration exercise earlier this autumn yet staged in Britain. But Whitehall's corridors of power were clearly the target for the main theme of the ambitious promotion at the Motor Industry Research Association's proving grounds in the Midlands. As he opened the event, held to support the Natural Gas Vehicle Association, ERF chairman Peter Foden declared: "While the Government has made some moves toward reducing the tax it imposes on natural gas, there is much, much further to go before industry is likely to take the view that this is a viable alternative form of energy."
