Use and misuse of linear type diffusers

The linear look is the flavour of the month from architects and interior designers. We are often pressured to use slot diffusers, and bar diffusers to distribute substantial supply air quantities of cooled/heated air via high wall locations into low or obstructed ceiling occupied spaces, for prestige offices and residential apartments, to obtain 'the look'. The traditional, well understood, easy to adjust and balance, double deflection side blow grille with 0/B multi blade air scoop was much more forgiving. The linear look can have problems for designers/installers in term of performance relating to air flow, temperature distribution and noise.
