It is not necessary to be a New Zealander to appreciate the content in James Hollings' A moral truth. You just need a fascination with and respect for excellent investigative journalism. Among the 33 stories collected, which date from 1863 to the present day, are legendary tales the editor has regularly referred to in his journalism classes at Massey University in Wellington. (Hollings is also the co-founder of the NZ Centre for Investigative Journalism.) It is how his students reacted to John Pilger's work that inspired Hollings to collate the Kiwi anthology, which covers all aspects of journalism law and ethics - from racism, murder, suicide and child abuse to data mining, tax avoidance and police bungles.
