Assessment of Progress for Undergraduate Majors in Small Departments: A Faculty-Student Assembly

The standard approach to advisementnin most departments atnRowan University is to assign studentsnto faculty members. Some departmentsnmay have one person with releasentime to do all the advising. Properly examiningnthe courses and programs in whichnundergraduate students are progressingnis an appropriate topic of concern. Onenway to handle such an assessment is thenthree-tiered advisement process outlinednin the rest of this article. The combinationnof three methods of advising in regardnto program progress enhances thendepartment’s capability to address studentnand course problems. Having experiencednthese enhanced capabilities in myndepartment, I fi nd the three methods verynhelpful.
