ROK Armed Forces: Effective Instrument of National Policy

The Republic of Korea (ROK) Armed Forces have come a long way from the time they were equipped with surplus US and even cast-off Japanese World War II weapons and equipment at the time of the Korean War. Thorough and far-sighted planning, not to mention sustained funding, have made the ROK Armed Forces what it is today. Its component forces—ROK Army, ROK Navy, ROK Air Force—continue to benefit from a raft of capability-building programmes supported by a vibrant domestic defence industry. The ROK Armed Forces stand at a high level of capability as well as availability as an effective deterrent to Democratic People of Republic Korea (DPRK) military adventurism and as the sharp-ended instrument in fulfilling national commitments in regional and global affairs.
