The new chief of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lt Gen Zahirul Islam, assumed the office on March 19 with prime ministerial advice for tuning the working of the spy outfit in accordance with "national aspira-tions" in his hand. "ISI is an important arm of the security establishment assigned to safeguard the national interests in consonance with the aspirations of the people of Pakistan," Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani ad-vised the new spy master, who had called on him.
