Nokia to work with Sri Lanka Telecom on FTTH rollout

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) has entered into an agreement with Nokia under which the latter will deploy a next generation fiber-optic network to deliver ultra-high speed broadband access to customers across the country. In a press release, the vendor confirmed it will roll out a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network based on XGS-PON technology and touting peak speeds of up to 10Gbps covering more than 200,000 enterprise and residential users across Sri Lanka. Using Nokia's platform, SLT aims to provide its customers with high symmetrical download and upload speeds along with new enhanced broadband services, future proofing its network by enabling it 'to evolve to virtualization and Software Defined Access Networks (SDAN) by software upgrade'. Commenting on the development, the telco's CEO Kiththi Perera said: 'We are pleased to partner with Nokia to bring unparalleled data speeds to our enterprise and residential users. By fully utilizing the fiber-technology, we are looking to expand our customer offerings and provide access to a platitude of broadband-based services. Together SLT and Nokia will continue working towards the ultimate goal of improving broadband connectivity in Sri Lanka.'
