For a change the project that is cur-rently probably Berlin's most ambi-tious one looks forward rather than backwards On the traffic artery of Gertraudenstrasse, where until 1964 one of Berlin's oldest churches stood, an initiative wants to erect a new building for all three Abrahamic religions. The idea is to gather Christians, Jews and Moslems for prayer and teaching in a single building in which each religion will have its own sacred space. This unique task led to an open architecture competition in which eminent international architects such Navarro Baldeweg, Mario Botta, Axel Schultes, Juergen Mayer H., Heinz Tesar, Miroslav Sik, Volker Staab and Francesco Venezia took part.
