Transformation artist: Alteration in Klosterneuburg near Vienna

The client wanted to change the home he inherited from his parents. Syntax architektur did so by placing a marvellous little deck in front, with side walls, curtain, retractable textile roof and rolling mini-kitchen.The client had spent his childhood in this multi-dwelling house in Klosterneuburg. A pair of semi-detached houses from the 14th century line the site's south-eastern edge that fronts onto the town's elongated main square. A passageway leads from this oldest part to a courtyard and a rear building, where the client's parents had a ground-floor apartment. A backyard garden stretches out in front of their living room. As a child, the client had played there with great joy, as the garden directly adjoins the open expanse of a horticultural nursery. It is a paradise that unexpectedly unfolds in the evening sun as the culmination of this group of buildings. The nature garden was splendid compensation for the confines of the 105 m~2 dwelling shared by the family of four, yet because several doors created an obstacle in between, the children made less use of it as they grew older.
