摘要

A two-story house for a young couple, both editors, in a formerly uncrowded but now subdivided and densifying area of Tokyo. The ground floor has a ceiling height of just 1.8 m and is occupied by bookcases that double as structural members, with spaces between the bookshelves that could hardly be called rooms. It is, so to speak, a "House of Books". The second floor is an open space consisting of living room and terrace, lightly covered by thin roof of steel sandwich panels 60 mm thick. Greenery and light from the surroundings are brought in via reflections from the ceiling panels to create a space with an unusual floating feeling. Interior and exterior walls are configured with flexible board - 3×6 (910×1,820 mm) on the first floor and 4×8 (1,220×2,440 mm) on the second floor. This house is an attempt to redefine the standard two-story wooden house from the viewpoints of "dimensions" and "spatial weight". Especially now when neighborhoods are becoming denser, we should try to recapture the feeling of affinity between house and city through houses that aim for light living spaces and closeness to the city.
