Collective Intelligences: The Future is Hybrid

Every region of the world has its own repertoire of construction techniques. Although perfectly adapted to environmental conditions and shaped by their social and technological realms, these repertoires are gradually disappearing and being discarded under a globalised standardisation of processes and conception of progress.Tacit citizenship agreements, self-made devices and half-breed techniques are pure open-code knowledge, taught by imitation and improved through years of trial-and-error experimentation. While these manifestations of human creativity are not considered valuable in professional contexts, they offer an endless source of inspiration and learning that should be considered as an asset to architects, urban planners and designers in order to improve perspectives on cities' future development.Inteligencias Colectivas (IC) is an ongoing research and construction initiative founded in 2010 by the networking platform Zoohaus Collective, which itself was established in Madrid in 2007 to address critical and emergent concerns on urban environments. A non-profit organisation, Zoohaus was formed by young Spanish architects working in parallel to their different studios. The association is economically self-sustained with a remuneration for the members and collaborators involved in every new project. Every new endeavour, whether commissioned or self-generated, is managed differently and is funded by grants or by public and private initiatives hiring Zoohaus services. The IC team's approach is quite unlike the traditional conception of cooperation.
