Contribution of large-vehicle vibration and bridge vibration to low-frequency noise generation characteristics

It is essential to elucidate the generation factors and propagation process of bridge vibrations and low frequency noises with respect to optimal design and safety. However, previous studies have only reported on the individual vibration generation factors. Moreover, available studies that compare and examine these factors under the same conditions are insufficient. In this investigation, we aim to carefully examine the contribution of bridge vibration and low-frequency noise generation to its design and safety by performing a vibration test on an actual large bridge by driving a test vehicle across it. Experimental results of stress, displacement, vibration acceleration, and low-frequency-sound pressure level for each part of the bridge showed that the influence of the traveling speed and the type of vehicle suspension were significant factors with respect to the generation and propagation of bridge vibration and low frequency noise. Furthermore, the contribution analysis of the factors via quantification theory type I showed that traveling speed, traveling position, presence or absence of loading, speed of travel, and type of suspension contributed to the low-frequency-sound pressure level.
