Recharging Batteries in Portable Devices

Consumer demand today requires portable electronic devices to be smaller and lighter, yet possess increased functionality. These conflicting demands present challenges in the development of battery technology for portables, making it necessary to provide more efficient battery management schemes for controlling the device, and simultaneously provide a safe, reliable and economic appliance. These ends can be achieved using the low-power modes of an 8-bit microcontroller (MCU) to extend the operating life of a portable appliance.
