JSM 2007 in Retrospect

I thoroughly enjoyed chairing the program committee for the 2007 Joint Statistical Meetings in Salt Lake City, and I hope those of you who were there (among the total of 5,186 attendees) found the experience as rewarding as the weather was steaming. Several people commented to me during the week that I did not appear frantic, as they expected me to be. My explanation was simple: Many talented and dedicated people worked hard on the preparations to ensure a successful conference. First, I want to thank the members of the program committee, who assembled a terrific slate of sessions. I believe the program exemplified the diverse discipline in which we are fortunate to be involved. The sessions provided myriad opportunities to become familiar with developments in theory, methodology, and applications. They also provided stimulating food for thought on important issues and challenges we face as statisticians.
