Chambers Award Winner Announced

We are pleased to announce that the judges of the Chambers Award have selected the winner of the 2008 competition: Alejandro Jara Vallejos, from the Catholic University of Leuven. Alejandro received this year's award for his submission, "DPpackage," an R package for Bayesian semiparametric and nonparametric models. Vallejos will be presented with his award during the Statistical Computing and Graphics Section mixer at JSM 2008. The John M. Chambers Award is endowed by Chambers' generous donation of the prestigious Software System Award of the Association for Computing Machinery, presented to him in 1998 for the design and development of the S language. The competition is open to small teams of developers (which must include at least one student or recent graduate) who have designed and implemented a piece of statistical software.
