Loebsack Introduces Bill Promoting Statistical Literacy

In late September, Rep. David Loebsack of Iowa introduced the Statistical Teaching, Aptitude, and Training Act of 2010 (STAT Act of 2010), a bill promoting K-12 statistics education. The bill, H.R. 6355, would make funding for professional development and statistical education programs available to local education agencies in states with statistical literacy plans approved by the U.S. Secretary of Education. In preparing to introduce the bill, Loebsack emphasized the importance of making sure this and future generations of students have the statistical skills needed to cope in our increasingly data-centric world.
