New center displays human side of Antietam

Once a silent witness to the violence and bloodshed that was the Battle of Antietam, a modest, two-story house has been reborn 148 years later as a Civil War visitor center. The Newcomer House near Sharpsburg, Md., owned by farmer Joshua Newcomer at the time of the battle, is home to the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area Exhibit and Visitor Center, a cooperative project of the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area, the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the National Park Service.
