Dallas is the destination for water professionals this summer as Big D hosts the 1998 AWWA Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE), June 21-25. This year's ACE promises to be Texas-sized, attracting more than 12,000 water industry personnel, showcasing 500 exhibitors and 1,000 booths, and featuring 70-plus technical sessions over four days. "This annual conference is not only bigger, but better," reports AWWA Technical & Education Department Director David Rossiter. "More abstracts were submitted this year than ever before. The technical presentations selected from this pool are outstanding, the best the industry has to offer."

Os valores mínimos de iluminância estabelecidos nessa norma, tanto para iluminação natural como para iluminação artificial não atendem aos valores mínimos estabelecidos na norma ABNT NBR ISO/CIE 8995-1:2013, que trata das condições para o conforto visual dos ocupantes. Dessa forma, ambientes projetados para atender somente ao critério mínimo para iluminação natural podem ter como consequência não somente o desconforto visual, como também gastos adicionais pelo consumo de energia elétrica com a iluminação artificial, visando atingir o conforto visual mínimo, com impactos mais significativos para a população de baixa renda. Foi estimada a melhoria do uso de luz natural considerando as áreas efetivas de iluminação proporcionadas por janelas, comumente, encontradas no mercado brasileiro para uso em habitações, comparando-se os valores do “Fator de Luz Diurna” (FLD) obtidos de um conjunto de simulações computacionais. As simulações foram realizadas para determinar a iluminância em um ponto central de um recinto, sob três condições de céu, para os solstícios e equinócios, das 8 h às 17 h, em intervalos de 30 min. Além disso, foi determinado o “Fator de Luz Diurna referência” (FLDr), definido como a relação entre os valores da iluminância estabelecida na norma ABNT NBR ISO/CIE 8995-1:2013 e da iluminância externa. Os resultados mostram que é possível distinguir, claramente, entre os tipos de janela que podem atender aos requisitos de conforto visual conforme as relações entre a dimensão do ambiente e a área útil para iluminação da janela. Com base nesses aspectos, os requisitos e critérios da norma ABNT NBR 15575-5:2013 podem ser aprimorados tendo em vista garantir um conforto visual mínimo e reduzir o consumo de energia para iluminação artificial.
