Committee Report: Helpful information required in polymer product technical data sheets

Polyelectrolytes, more commonly referred to as polymers, in addition to inorganic coagulants, have greatly enhanced the rate and extent of particulate removal in water and wastewater treatment plants. They have enabled older water treatment plants that were designed for less stringent turbidity standards to meet and even exceed current, more stringent turbidity standards without having to make major capital improvements. The storage, feeding, and laboratory testing of polymers requires specialized product-specific information. Without this information, the user may be unable to properly conduct laboratory tests to determine whether a polymer can benefit a plant's liquids-solids removal applications or, if laboratory tests appear promising, to properly evaluate, store, and feed the polymer in a plant application.
