Analysis of Variance and Covariance: How to Choose and Construct Models for the Life Sciences

This book is targeted at a mature audience of postgraduate researchers who are planning studies and analyzing the resulting data. The book's content, style, and organization led me to almost immediately conclude that it should be used in the company of a more traditional text on experimental design and linear models, such as Applied Linear Statistical Models by Kutner et al. (2005). I was pleasantly surprised to find the authors suggest just that, giving their own list of texts that "explain the theory and mechanics underpinning analysis of variance" and recommending consulting such texts in addition to their own. A reader who starts using the book without the appropriate background or use of a supplemental text will quickly realize that one or both is necessary to make it through even the first section.
