Injection Well Victory May Not Be Final

The Kansas oil and gas industry scored a major victory in early September when the Kansas Corporation Commission affirmed the validity of nearly 1,000 injection well permits granted since Oct. 24, 2008. But like the proverbial bad penny, the issue is destined to keep turning up, advised speakers at the Eastern Kansas Oil & Gas Association's annual convention, held Oct. 2-4 at the Prairie Band Casino Convention Center in Mayetta.The injection well docket was "one of our biggest issues," Regulatory and Environmental Chairman David Bleakley observed during the Oct. 3 EKOGA membership meeting, explaining that an activist group called the Flint Hills Stewards had protested injection well permits granted for applications filed with public notices that indicated a 15- rather than 30-day protest period.
