The Manufacturing Advisory Service has added more than £150 million to the value of the companies it has helped since it was set up. As birthdays go, the celebration of a government-sponsored business advice service may not be top of your list. But the fourth birthday of the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) didn't pass unnoticed by the government. Chancellor Gordon Brown even praised the scheme in the budget - its "growing role" and "targeted support" are of benefit to modern manufacturing, he said. Tony Boylan, national network manager of MAS, says Brown was entitled to be pleased. "We exceeded our initial targets for the first three years," says Boylan. "We were set a target of £90 million of value added by 2005 and we achieved £155 million."
