Strategies for preventing respiratory syncytial virus

Given the prevalence of RSV and the limitations of currently available treatments, prevention is crucial for decreasing the burden associated with this disease. For many children, infection with RSV does not require acute care. However, RSV produces significant morbidity in some, resulting in emergency department visits or admission to acute or intensive care units. Developing an RSV prophylaxis program is an important part of managing children at risk for severe RSV disease.
