摘要

FIXING PAST DAMAGE Local workers, including youngsters and displaced loggers and fishermen, have been hired for restoration projects and ongoing field surveys and monitoring overseen by the Coos Watershed Association, a non-profit concerned with some 150,000 acres of lush coastal forest lands, of which 40 percent is owned by Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a contributing partner. Besides the Association's staff, the projects employ contractors and their heavy equipment. Forest and watershed restoration includes a diverse set of activities ranging from thinning and [removing] hazardous fuels, removing noxious weeds, and modifying culverts, bridges, and dams to improve fish passage and stream habitat.
