摘要

Our current civilization is highly dependent on petroleum basednfuels, chemicals, and materials. However, the fear of depletion ofnpetroleum and related environmental issues has stimulated researchnon biorefineries that convert sustainable biomass into different typesnof energy and materials within one industrial platform. Thenbioethanol industry is one such biorefinery that produces ethanol andnanimal feed from feedstocks such as sugarcane or corn. Corn ethanol,nwhich is the leading global source of bio-based ethanol, is restrictednby corn food prices which results in economical and ecologicalndisadvantages of the current processes. One method to improve thisnprocess is to produce higher value material from corn ethanolnbyproducts, using an integrated biorefinery platform.
