After receiving his degree from the Culinary Institute of Indonesia Deden Putra began his career in Singapore where he was part of the opening team for the five-star Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta. In 1997 he came to the U.S. as pastry chef at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. For the next 13 years he worked at various hotels in Southern California including the Hotel Sofitel, the Bacara Resort and the Beverly Wilshire. In 2010 he moved to New York City as executive pastry chef at Jumeirah Essex House and is currently the executive pastry chef at The Penisula. He has competed in the World Pastry Forum and completed additional certifications under Ewald Notter, Jacquy Pfeiffer and Sebastien Canonne. He is currently training for the signature plated dessert competition at Pastry Live 2014.
