I saw Lynzie Ritchie’s wedding-design style for the first time at the Irish Sugarcraft Show back in February and awarded her competition entry a Gold Envelope to be featured in ACD. How could I not? Her nautical tiers were packed with delightful marine detail and super-delicate coloring. I was particularly smitten with the piped sea urchin separator tier—which Lynzie has kindly agreed to share with us—but first, let’s meet the maker. For me, competition is all about challenging yourself and exploring new techniques and designs that you may not get the chance to do in your everyday orders. I had seen some amazing artwork with shells and corals on Pinterest and was inspired to create a nautical cake that was a bit different.
