New columnist ValSeitz is a sugar artist based in Frankfurt, Germany. Originally from former Yugoslavia, Val's love for flowers was learned from her grandmother, so when she started creating cakes, it quickly became clear what her passion would be. Since then, Val has been creating beautifully realistic and botanically correct sugar blooms and also teaching students her enviable techniques around the world, but she still has time to make a cake for family and friends as well! Val has hosted incredible cake collaborations with fiance Isabel Tomargo, won many awards, and is an ambassador for Stand It cake boards as well as being a Magic Colours Champion. On top of all that, Val is a trainee judge for Cake International, so she understands both sides of cake competitions and the pressure we put ourselves under to achieve recognition and develop our skills. Val also knows the importance of taking care, being mindful, and living in the moment, so her new column will remind us why we came to love cake as a craft in the first place…
