The Czech Republic is located in Central Europe. Part of Czechoslovakia from the end of World War I, the peaceful "Velvet Revolution" in 1989 led to the 1993 separa-tion of the country into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic, or Slovakia. The Czech Republic now lies to the west of Slovakia. It is also bordered by Aus-tria, Germany, and Poland.
