The company started 1967 by introducing a new trademark, 'Accent S'. Designed by Southern's advertising agency, Harris & Weinstein Associates, the symbol, in 'royal blue and gleaming gold', was described as 'sleek', 'graceful', and 'elegant'. It was selected after dozens of shapes and color variations were tested over the course of 'endless weeks of research'.This was followed by a new uniform for Southern's 100 stewardesses, created by French designer Pierre Balmain. An apricot-colored ensemble with pill box hat, worn with an Accent S pin instead of traditional crew wings, the new uniform was considered to be very modern. Chief Stewardess Kay Davison commented: "Our stewardesses are becoming members of the 'jet-set' and we want them to look and feel the part." The new uniform went 'online' on June 15, the first day of jet service.
