For Greg Foran, the start of 2020 was a new chapter in the life of the former Walmart executive. After a 40-year career in retail, the Kiwi native had moved back to his homeland from the United States to take up the helm of Air New Zealand. His first foray into the world of aviation was likely not what he was expecting and required his decades of experience managing businesses to navigate the flag carrier through the aviation industry's toughest ever period. "It's safe to say that my beginnings at the airline were far from what I had anticipated," he told Airliner World. "Our Shanghai services were suspended just as I started at the airline as the situation in China worsened. By March, it quickly became apparent the COVID-19 crisis was going to be around for a lot longer and would likely have a much bigger impact than first anticipated."
