ICAO Conflict Zone Action

FOLLOWING THE loss of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 over Iran in January, the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Council has established new measures relating to conflict zone risk assessments. At the meeting, the 36 member states adopted a new mitigation initiative called Safer Skies. Presented by Canada, the proposal was co-sponsored by Costa Rica, Finland, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, Spain and the United Kingdom. Safer Skies calls on ICAO to perform a comprehensive gap analysis of current airspace management and conflict zone-related guidance material and for its results to be ready for review in June this year.
