Where on Earth is East Midlands Airport?

Eagle-eyed reader John Webster spotted a mistake in the December issue of Airliner World, noting that we accidentally placed East Midlands Airport (EMA) in Nottinghamshire. John pointed out that the UK's second biggest cargo hub is actually in Leicestershire. Not ten minutes after John's call, we received an email from the AAIB about a report into an incident at EMA, which, it stated, was in Derbyshire. Rather than resolving the matter, a quick Google search proved a minefield. Derby is the closest city, yet the nearest town - Castle Donnington - is in Leicestershire, despite DerbyshireLife.co.uk trying to claim the town as its own. Adding controversy to confusion was mention of the facility's 2004 renaming as Nottingham East Midlands Airport - a decision which didn't sit well with locals and was reversed in 2006. Further bamboozlement stems from the fact that East Midlands Parkway railway station, located north of Ratcliffe-on-Soar is firmly in Nottinghamshire.
