Lion Air 737 MAX Crash

Global investigations are continuing after the crash of Lion Air flight JT610 on October 29. All 181 passengers and eight crew on board the Boeing 737 MAX 8 died after the aircraft impacted the Java Sea shortly after take-off from Jakarta/Soekarno-Hatta en route to Pangkal Pinang/Depati Amir on the island of Sumatra. Air traffic control said the crew of JT610 requested to return to the Indonesian capital whilst on the climb-out from the airport, however, the aircraft did not declare an emergency. Despite receiving clearance to return to Jakarta, the jet did not turn around and radar contact was lost shortly thereafter. The narrowbody, PK-LQP (c 43000), was delivered new to Lion Air just three months earlier from the US manufacturer.
