PURPOSE: An airbag apparatus for a vehicle and deployment method thereof are provided to secure the safety of passengers by deploying an airbag in an asymmetrical shape because a lateral deceleration and acceleration is detected in an oblique or offset crash.;CONSTITUTION: An airbag apparatus for a vehicle comprises an airbag housing(10), an inflator(20), an airbag(30), a crash sensing unit, tether units(71,72), and a control unit. The inflator is arranged inside of the airbag housing. The airbag is mounted inside of the inflator and swollen by an expansive force. The crash sensing unit detects a lateral deceleration and acceleration and a crash signal. The tether units are arranged in an asymmetrical shape around the airbag. The control unit adjusts a length of a tether(51) by operating the tether units based on the lateral deceleration and acceleration detected by the crash detecting unit so that the airbag is deployed in symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
