AW159 enters Philippine Navy service

THE AW159 maritime helicopter was formally commissioned into service with the Philippine Navy's (PN) Naval Air Group at Naval Base Heracleo Alano in Cavite City on June 17. Personnel will now undergo training on the type, two of which arrived in the country on May 7. Operating unit of the AW159s is Squadron MH-40 at Danilo Atienza Air Base. According to the PN, the Wildcats will be used primarily for anti-submarine warfare aboard the two Jose Rizal-class missile frigates being constructed in South Korea, the first of which is scheduled for delivery next year, with the second to follow in 2021.
