Traditionally aircraft financing was always the preserve of a few European and US banks. However, more Asian lenders are increasingly approaching airlines to offer them aircraft financing. Banks in Taiwan, China, Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore have all recently been involved in aircraft deals, while Thai and Malaysian banks are also believed to be eying deals. Sources say that competition has been "severe" between these new aviation lenders. China Construction Bank in Hong Kong, Taiwan's Cathay United Bank, Bank of Taiwan, BTMU, Bank of China in Hong Kong, ICBC in Beijing and Development Bank of Singapore are just some of the names being linked to aviation deals.
