Market Presence. As with the ATR42, orders for the ATR72 proved elusive in 2003 but improved in the recent years by a significant amount. The orders for the -600 now amount to more than 692. Production of the ATR72-600 has been variously increased and then reduced, nearly reaching a 100 a year at one stage, and the backlog now amounts to more than 200 aircraft which equates to at least 2-3 years production. Approximately 476 ATR72-600s have been delivered. The very number of deliveries and the length of time that the -600 has been in service has ensured that availability has increased. The problems that have been experienced in the recent past in terms of excess supply or nearly new aircraft served to undermine lease rentals. Lease rentals have yet to fully recover. With respect to the value of a new ATR72-600 the average of seven appraisers is just over $20 million with a narrow band between the highest and the lowest.
