Last January legislation took effect that prohibits the Department of Defense from selling F-14 parts at surplus auctions, closing the market to Iran, the only country that still flies the U.S. Navy fighter ("Persian Cats," Aug./Sept. 2006). Most of the 79 F-14s the U.S. sold to Iran in the 1970s are no longer airworthy, but an unknown number of fighters survive, in desperate need of parts.
