MACT Deferred for Some Combustion Turbines

On August 18, 2004 (69 FR 51184-51188), EPA stayed the effectiveness of the maximum achievable control technology (MACT) standards for two subcategories of stationary combustion turbines. The August 18, 2004 final rule stays the effective date of the emission limits and operating requirements for new sources in the lean premix gas-fired and diffusion flame gas-fired combustion turbine subcategories. Under the final rule, new sources in these two subcategories are not required to apply emission controls, or to comply with operating, monitoring, and reporting requirements. However, new sources in these subcategories are still required to submit an initial notification to their permitting authority.
