Sikorsky signed an $8.5 billion deal with the US Army and Navy to purchase 653 UH-60 Black Hawk and MH-60 Seahawk helicopters on July 9. The five-year long Multi-Year 8 contract covers purchases by the US services through to December 2017. A further 263 of both types could be included within the same period, increasing the value of the contract to $11.7 billion, according to Sikorsky. The deal is expected to yield significant savings in comparison to year-by-year awards. It is the eighth such contract for H-60 models since fiscal year 1982 and was agreed after three years of planning, including six months of negotiations.
