Ground testing has been completed on upgraded onboard systems for the Russian Air Force's Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack bomber, clearing the way for flight tests to start before the end of this year. The evaluation concluded with a series of hardware in the loop simulations of the upgraded bomber systems carried out by Tupolev, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise, and GosNll AS (State Scientific Research Institute for Aviation Systems). The upgrades add digital avionics and aims to improve navigation. Tu-160s will also be equipped to carry the Kh-55 cruise missile and employ laser-guided bombs.
