JORDAN BIDS TO FORM AEROSPACE INDUSTRY

A number of Middle Eastern countries have established aerospace and other cutting-edge industries in anticipation of the time when their oil revenues may begin to fall. Most aircraft production in the region is undertaken to satisfy domestic defence needs, but the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has other ambitions. Having no oil reserves, it has embarked upon a policy of developing aviation and defence industries with export markets in mind. Jordan has begun modestly, by undertaking the manufacture of foreign designs under licence and to date these have been mostly light and microlight aircraft. However, one of the two aviation companies established so far has declared its intention to build an executive aircraft. Time will tell if such an ambition is too much for a fledgling industry, but already other aircraft are beginning to flow off Jordanian production lines.
