The latest generation of specialised atlack helicopters includes the US Bell AH-IW/Z SuperCobra and Boeing AH-64A Apache/AH-64D Longbow Apache, European Eurocopter Tigre (Tiger), Italian AgustaWestland AI29 Mangusta (Mongoose), South African Denel AH-2 Rooivalk and Russian Mil Mi-28 Havoc and Kamov Ka-50 Black Shark/Ka-52 Alligator. An earlier Russian type still in widespread use, the Mil Mi-24-.Hind, is heavier and more versatile, fitted with a 'squad-sized'cabin enabling it to undertake assaull transport in addition to the above roles.
