On August 4 Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific announced that it had signed a Letter of Intent to buy 30 Airbus A350-900s. The aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWBs and delivered between 2016 and 2019. They will be used to replace older aircraft as well as expanding capacity within the fleet.rnIn addition, the airline will exercise an existing option to purchase six Boeing 777-300ERs powered by General Electric GE90s. Cathay already has 30 of the type on order, 18 of which have been delivered while the other 12 are due to be handed over by the end of 2013.
