Royal Navy Retires Sea King Mk 6CR

No.846 Naval Air Squadron based at Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset retired its final commando-configured Westland Sea King Mk 6CR (XZ922) on March 31. The Mk 6CR was introduced in 2004 to cover a potential shortfall in the Sea King HC4 fleet duringrna major avionics upgrade programme. To mitigate the impact of this shortfall five redundant Sea King HAS6 airframes previously used in the anti-submarine role were modified for the commando troop carrying mission.
